
C.J.’s career in education spans nearly twenty years of experience as an educator and school leader. The last seven years of his career he served as the superintendent of schools in Joplin, MO where he was responsible for leading his district of 1,100 employees and 7,747 students through the response and recovery effort following the costliest tornado in U.S. history that destroyed much of his school district on May 22, 2011.

During his eleven-year tenure as a school superintendent, Dr. Huff was responsible for over $200 million in temporary and permanent construction, securing funding through voter approved bond issues, grants, capital campaigns, insurance proceeds, and SEMA and FEMA funding to deliver high quality facilities on time and on budget. His facilities have received numerous awards, including the prestigious international award for school design, the James D. MacConnell Award, for the design and construction of the temporary Joplin High School.

Since his retirement in 2015, C.J. has served schools and communities as a Senior Advisor for Education, Children, and Youth on behalf of the U.S. Department of Education and U.S. Department of Health and Human Services supporting FEMA missions through many of the worst disasters in recent history. Throughout his career he has been recognized for his efforts. Among those recognitions include People Magazine featuring Dr. Huff as a “Hero Among Us,” the Missouri Association of School Administrators Missouri Superintendent of the Year, and as a finalist for the American Association of School Administrators’ National Superintendent of the Year award.
